Anyone know anything about Svenskt Tenn - or old Swedish marks?

I've got my paws on this old thingummy made by Svensk Tenn - which I'm assuming is a letter rack or napkin holder - but i'm not having much luck finding out what the marks mean. I'm not even sure it's silver. They've made a lot of pewter things too but it seems rather shiny for pewter. I'm assuming the M8 on the base identifies it as being made in 1938 but other than that i'm a bit lost and would appreciate some help if anyone can.
    Thank you!

Tenn in Swedish means Tin. So it's pewter. Many people like their pewter shiny. ;)

Thanks but I don't think it's quite as literal as that because they do make silver stuff too. And might use other metals. I wondered if this was stainless steel.

I suspect that little man in the shield holds the answer.

For future reference, the page in this link shows examples of Swedish marks on solid silver. Note the "3 crowns" national mark which does not appear on your item.

I doubt that the M8 on your item is a date mark.

Yes, the little man in shield and quite probably the monogram - BHE?

That little man looks like the St Erik crest of Stockholm. He is depicted in several ways, this is a more modern one.

Thanks - St Erik would make sense.

Bakersgma - why do you doubt the M8 being the date marker? It was the only thing I actually thought I'd worked out with any success.

And thanks for the link. I had seen it but it didn't shed any light. I also asked Svenskt Tenn directly but they didn't reply.

In Stockholm and with a name like Ericson, a St Erik crest is mandatory.;)

As Bakersgma said, it is most definitely pewter, but the 'M8' is most likely the date code, some Swedish pewterers have used the silver codes on their production.

I doubt it since the date mark table is for solid silver items and this item is not solid silver. Which it not to say that the company did not use some form of date marking - which is why I said "doubt" and not a more absolute term. ;)

EDIT - Thank you Cheryl for weighing in. I stand corrected!

    Thanks all.

So, whittling it down - most likely pewter, made in Stockholm in 1938.
    Now for tackling those initials!

I do love the internet. Thanks all who helped. Happy new year!

Here's some decent info about the marks & about the company:

    SVENSKT TENN STOCKHOLM

    Firma Svenskt Tenn, 1924 - 1933
    AB Swedish Tenn 1933 -
    Stockholm

Founded by Estrid Ericson and Nils Fougstedt on October 24, 1924. At the beginning, the company was located on Smålandsgatan 40 but moved 1927 to its current address at Strandvägen 5. Already at the start, the assortment contained hundreds of articles that, towards the end of the golden age of the tin in the early 1930s, century, have far over a thousand articles. Thereafter, the number of news on the front page has been limited. Among other things, there are some new additions that are variations on objects designed in the early 1930s or earlier. In the early 2000s, ten Swedish artists also drew up new objects.

Thanks SBSVC. Shame my thingummy isn't pictured there. I guess that would have been too big an ask.

Added - I have found a similarly moose-styled pen holder with inkwell so it's looking more likely that my thingummy is a letter rack.
