The roll mounts in a folding A-Frame child’s chalk board and a flat working surface.

I’ll add the chalk board photo if there is interest.

I’d love to know more about it and any ideas about protecting the roll - both layers are tattered and fragile

I remember that at least one of the blackboard-on-stand things my brother and I had when little (think early 50's) had a roll of very thick paper inserted into the upright part with things like this printed on it - the paper was attached at each end to a rod with nobs at the ends that turned to advance what was shown or to turn back.

Love this! I've seen similar but few with so many things going on.
Maybe late 1930's, going by that bus?
I know what a "peck" is, but never heard of a "Gills"

    30s is a great guess!
These things ran for years. Probably didn't want to pay for updated artwork. May have even be utilized into the 60s. Note the carrier has biplanes.

I have that exact roll - and it is in a chalkboard/easel stand just like Bakersgma says! It is in the window of my store - unfortunately, I will have to wait until tomorrow to take a picture of it. I am taking a snow day today.
The stand was made in Winchendon, MA - which abuts Templeton, where I live, and Gardner, where my store is. Winchendon is known as Toy Town. The easel was made by the Converse Toy Company.

Mo - when I go to the store tomorrow I'll see if anything is printed on the bottom of the scroll as to printer, date, etc.

@Bookahtoo , what is the name of your store, if you care to divulge? I live in MA also and occasionally find myself up that way. Do you ever go to the Rietta Ranch flea market? My sister and I have had a table there a few times in the past (although we didn't manage to make it last year).

The electric railroad engine looks like something straight off the transit system from the 30s; Lionel sure made its share. The biplanes are an oddity, but they show up in other illustrations from the 30s. If this were WWII or later they'd be gone and you'd be seeing P-38s or something.

It's the PYCA(it's had the name for 50 years - a long story).

I try not to go to Rietta - I spend way too much money on stuff I don't need. I think I went there twice last summer.

P-38s would be Army Air Corps.
The biplanes were probably supposed to be Martins and used til about ‘38ish.
Navy and Marines would change to monoplanes such as Douglas Dauntless dive bombers, Vaughts, Hellcats and Corsairs, etc.

Companies were still making WWI-design toys well into the 30s rather than copying the latest and greatest. It's no surprise the educational toys might follow suit. I hope at least by then those box kites had some armor.

That could work for our first carrier, the USS Langley, was launched in ‘22 though that is far from being her.

i would suggest that the transport was meant to all be from the same period...
