A nice silver gilt brooch. It looks Norwegian to me, but I hope it isn't one of those German Norwegian style pieces.;)
I can't find a maker H.O., or the company mark.
@DragonflyWink , or other lovely people, could you help please?

    It is 4.5cm/1.77" long.

    Thank you for looking.:)

Forgot, complete view of the back, seller's pic with the pin the wrong way around. Good photo though.

What’s the number in the middle? 83?.
Not that I’m going to be a useful member of society here but I can pretend :hilarious:

Oh, maybe not? 830 vs 835?

    I think it is!
Mine could be 830, which is the usual Norwegian fineness, but the third digit is hidden behind the thingy that fixes the filigree part to the back. It looks like a 5 to me.

Well done INH!. I don’t think them swapping the letters around from H.O to O.H is playing fair though :facepalm::hilarious:

Apologies for the late reply, my funny head needed some rest, it only wanted to help type if all letters were wstihcde, uhm, switched around.:wacky:
    One of those silversmith's tricks.
Yay, Kiko! Thanks for that, I think you've got it! Now we 'just' have to find O.H.
@DragonflyWink , if you have time, any ideas?:)

Sorry, don't know the maker and am a only a bit troubled by that last digit, doesn't look like a '0' to me, but doesn't really look like a '5' either - perhaps defaced in some way? Can't recall ever seeing Norwegian silver marked '835' (in fact, only one mid 20th century Danish maker comes to mind for any Scandinavian .835 silver), and the 'H.O.' mark appears on this typical crowned heart sølje (Mariasølje), the fineness stamped as '830S' https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-75-VINTA...713729?hash=item467a5e5701:g:ouEAAOSwyQtVtxJM, so pretty comfortable in believing the maker Norwegian.

The Gothic 'S' in the shield has nothing to do with Saethers (founded 1924 or '36, depending on source), their early mark was an 'S' over a hammer - I've seen similar Gothic 'S' marks on late 19th century silver by known Norwegian makers, suspect it indicates 'Sølv' (Silver). Bit curious if another mark (at left of 'S') was intentionally defaced on the sølje linked by INH...

This seller in this Worthpoint result https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-solje-brooch-norwegian-830-462360891 somehow believes their common sølje, described as 'Norwegian', was produced by Danish maker Henning Oddershede (won't delve into their other mangled assumptions and assertions) - for some reason, it's so common for sellers to lump all Scandinavian and Nordic countries together, using them interchangeably, some like to add 'Dutch' in there as well...

    Thanks Cheryl.
Could be. It is partly hidden, so difficult to tell.
I know! I think adding Dutch stems from the fact that The Netherlands is considered a Nordic country, even though it is not Scandinavian. Same goes for Denmark, btw, which isn't strictly Scandinavian. There is a close cultural and linguistic relationship between all these countries though.
And ah well, we're all Continental, aren't we. All the same, whether Dutch or Greek.
Interesting thought. The style of this brooch, as well as the pin hinge, led me to believe it was late 19th century. I have a pendant in the same style, and have been trying to find out if it was from a specific region in Norway.

Feel sure that I have at least one piece with a similar 'S' mark, but apparently not one that I have in my available photo files - here are a couple in chamfered cartouches on Giorgio's site, Thune and Tostrup, both also bearing the Kristiania/Oslo city seal and small unidentifiable mark as well:

Thank you for looking, @louise gaskell .
In the Ole G Hæhre mark the dots are placed differently, to make it O.H instead of H.O..
