Glass like vase like pineapple pattern with bottm hold what is it for.

This item is 7" tall approximately what is it and what is it. My brother brought it to me and I do not know what it is. It is made with 2 sections pressed together.

 

Could it hold a candle?

 

seem like the glass would get too smoked or too hot I could be wrong. The diameter is 2 1/4"

 

It looks perfectly capable of surviving the heat of a single candle. Most of the heat goes straight up anyway, not off to the sides. Same thing with any smoke. No doubt you would have to clean them off now & then, no big deal. If that opening in the bottom is the right size for a taper candle, I think that's what it is for.

 

Would this glass piece have a base? My brother said it might be for a candle, but I could not picture it burning down in the lower depth of the glass.

 

If my eyes are making out the photo correctly & this glass piece is open at the bottom, then I would have to guess, yes, it sat in a base, probably metal.
