Sorry it’s a poor photo and the only one from the auction house. Please would you have a look?
Do you think I am looking at camphor glass necklaces? Bottom of the photo, green and blue.
If so, worth asking for more photos or should I pass?
Thanks for looking, from a very wet miserable Gloucestershire, soaked three times, lame pony and got my tax bill sort of day.....:stop::(
Thankyou all for keeping me sane

But to the necklaces, yep. The white one is shell. The green one is rhinestone and camphor glass. So is the blue one - Czech probably. Maybe French. The design looks "funny" for American.

Do I see two chunks of amber? Earrings or something?

Possibly. Hard to believe professionals who want to realise high prices can be so bad at promoting their sales!

That's a right bugger's muddle. Necklaces are nice, camphor, I like the diamante, but I'm a sucker for that stuff. Lockdown has disclosed I have at least fifty necklaces like that. Oh dearie dearie me. I'd not go much above £20 for the lot, as it's so unclear.

I get the impression that people like that don't actually want to sell. I don't know what they do want though.

It’s an auction house so they should want to sell!

Some sellers and auction houses don't follow the normal rules of logic.;)

I think sometimes people bid on lots that they can't see clearly, hoping to "find" a hidden treasure. I see jumbles of junk on ebay all the time that get good bids. Maybe there is something in there, maybe not, but I think the mystery of the unknown attracts some buyers.

I do love grabbing hands fulls at car boot sales. A bunch of tangles cost me fifty pence once, and revealed a very fine silver and coral necklace amongst other things. The dealer said be couldn't be arsed to untangle.;)

I have found some good things in ebay lots, 18K earrings in a costume lot, a David Andersen necklace in an inexpensive sterling lot, other stuff I can't recall. I have also bought lots that looked promising and did not yield much. If I'm thinking about bidding on a lot with inadequate photos, I always look at the other listings the seller has. If they have lots of jewelry listings with better quality single items, I pass on the lot, assuming they know enough to have probably picked out anything good.
I see many lots on ebay advertised as "Unsearched" but I have trouble believing that.

The ones with lousy photos and spelling can be promising, especially if they've low feedback.

That's better than I thought. Nice old cake decorations and a veil wreath, those ought to do well. A decent MOP bookmark, the Celtic brooch may be interesting, and you've a mourning brooch. Sixties clip ons, and the green brooch is probably jade in goldtone. Maybe jet. Pearl crescent is interesting too.

Exactly this. Also if they appear to have missed something good in one listing I go and check out the others!.

Agree, I nearly always find something good in the modern tat. I don’t stop to check it out for too long, if it’s cheap I buy it!.

Yeah, right, unsearched means they have been through it with a fine tooth comb, the most powerful loupe known to man, used oceans of acid to double check that the M&S necklace isn’t 22ct gold and filed holes in everything else rendering it ruined!
    Cynical?...moi?....oh yes!
