Can anyone come up with an appropriate descriptive word for the bird on this compact? Could list as "Enamel Volupte compact with bird". Anything better or more specific you can think of? Is it a chicken? Sort of drawing a blank here. Thanks.

Amish Dutch distelfink (I think Any Jewelry taught me that) I hope I’m right!
    Also Oval
    White background?

I also thought distelfink... a bird I'd only just learned of from this thread, LOL.

I've never seen an actual distelfink that fancy.

I'm not familiar with "Volupte." Where were/are they?

I don’t think Google has learned as much as we have about the distelfink. (Not finding so far)

I have never heard of Distelfinks. Amazing what the people on this board know!

Bakers, I had never heard of that company before either, but I'm not very experienced with compacts. Just thought it was a cute enamel piece at the thrift and thought it was a pill box at first. But then found the little powder puff plus signature, did a quick phone look up and some from that company do sell well.

(List above is highest first, and I think mine would be at the lower price point, but still probably worth listing my Distelfinks!)

It is sort of "Amish" looking -- "Oval with white background", good starting point. Thanks HT.

It does look something like a distelfink, but I think it's supposed to be a take-off on Continental folk art.

As long as they're not pooping on you, you're OK.

They were a contemporary of DeVilbiss & were producing perfume bottles during the same approximate time frame, although DeVilbiss was a few years earlier. Their hardware & bottles are also somewhat similar in style, but had to be different in some way because DeVilbiss always patented their hardware designs.

I like the design. The bird is a peacock, the tail is the green swirl over its back.
The style and colouring are inspired by Hungarian-Rumanian, etc.

Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only original distelfink, all others are copies or cheap replicas made in a non-distelfink country.:hilarious:

    Hi,
I agree with Any Jewelry. It is not a "distelfink" that I have ever seen on any Amish farm or decoration. In school many years ago we had to draw distelfinks and other Amish designs.
