Yes, it is one of the ways I use as well. It definitely has a distinctive smell.

    Hi,
Glad to hear there are other silver smellers. My friends all say I am nuts that I can smell silver and tell if plated or not. I have demonstrated to them many times that I can smell silver.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: They just think that I am insane.

You can show and tell any time, pewter. I have done it a couple of times. Avid 'show and tellers' are Shangas and mr Nate.

You can tell them from me that it is perfectly normal. Collectors and dealers develop a greater sensitivity for it when they've handled a lot of silver, but anyone should be able to smell it. Whether they want to is another matter.;)
