Antique Garnet Brooch

Hello everyone, my friend brought over a bunch of old jewelry for me to sell for her, what kind of brooch is this ? And possibly used for what and era.

Generically, a bar brooch. Were worn at the collar of the blouse, keeping it tightly closed. In photo stone looks more like amethyst; is it more red than this? May well be glass. Clasp is type used in the earlier part of the 20th century.

 

It kind of looks more like amethyst than garnet to me.

Also see amethyst here. Garnets do show up in a range of color but I've never seen one in this shade.

 

Rhodolite garnets can be the same light amethyst color.

 

Thank you -- I didn't know that! Do you have any thoughts on the one posted in this thread? Maybe it's impossible to tell in a photo?

Impossible to tell the type of colored stone from a photo,the OP's may be glass.

 

My first thought was amethyst coloured glass. The brooch looks like a costume piece to me, so glass is more likely.
