I'm obviously relieved that the seller wrapped & packed this sculpture well. It has been in the post from France for several weeks and from what I can see it has only suffered a couple of minuscule flea-bite nicks which were already evident when I purchased it for a very good/reasonable price.

It is signed by Boni, a relatively unknown sculptor working in France during the 1930s. Information about him would be greatly appreciated, as I have only found pictures of is work. Boni, may be a pseudonym perhaps???

Its a tad over 25" long and the original patina is particularly pleasing. It has been crafted using chalk-ware/plaster which tends to be strengthened with metal rods for additional stability with these large sized items.

@i need help Many Thanks for those, its appreciated. Of course, Boni, could have been a female sculptor? her/his sculptures do seem to be feminine and/or cute in style? They are also relatively low cost in comparison with other makers, and yet they don't compromise in quality... Their values would certainly increase if Boni, turns out to be Chiparus or Max Le Verrier for example! The difference a name or signature makes on items is beyond me at times.

Editions Deluen, translates to Limited Edition.

That is interesting. Searches on Google etc. show items by Boni (not Bonj) but You could be on to something.

it was most probaly one of the many small ateliers that worked with Plâtre de Paris and the siggy could be from one of the designers.
"Un an après le Grand incendie de Londres, l'ordonnance du 18 août 1667 rend obligatoire à Paris de recouvrir le bois des maisons avec du plâtre pour qu'elles résistent au feu."
after the English succeeded to burn down London, Paris decided to install norms for building materials to be on the safe side; amongst others there was a Plâtre de Paris which was fire retardant and which was used to cover all open woods.
till today you can buy Ciment de Paris which is faster binding and has a seal and a controlled quality by the Ville de Paris.
