A friend sent the link. I knew I’d better avoid it, but was afraid I wouldn’t be able to resist. Only about 1/2 hr. away. Why did I have to stay away? It is exactly the kind of thing a hoarder doesn’t need. There’s lots of stuff I don’t need but would love to buy! If I went I’d spend too much money, having ready excuses for each piece of junk. “I’ll resell it.” “I’ll use it for trading.” “It’ll round out my collection of Zogglethwarps.” “These very seldom come on the market anymore.” (‘Cause everyone who collected them is dead.). Anyway, I’ve lived thru a whole day avoiding that sale and think I can make it thru two more. Saturday my machinist’s club is having its annual flea market where a lot of folks bring their excess metalworking items, and I will go to that. Will power. I’m working on it.

Would like to know what they had some of those radios priced at. So much potential there.

I had an estate sale scare me once... for quite a different reason!
It was the home of someone who had been heavily into the S&M scene. Not just a few whips and chains but lots of big contraptions, too. Scores of photos of some really odd stuff. I didn't attend. :shy:

I told him I thought it was a lot more recent than 1812 era but I can’t prove it, and don’t need to. I also told him I’d never seen any references to US Army Artillery (pre-WW1) using anything more elaborate than a Boy Scout-type pocket compass. There the emails ended. I don’t think he’s very upset, it is a nice-looking, good quality compass even if younger than advertised.

Good willpower, Spring. I think all of us have had that feeling. I LOVE buying certain vintage/antique items, and the brief high that comes from that, but I do need to curb it carefully, or will be drowning in the stuff, which actually creates a bad feeling later.

I think that is the art of this business. Try to avoid impulse purchases and stuff that will just sit around unsold and take up space. Some folks just have that good sense, for others it takes some practice -- like meditation, becoming a concert pianist, or anything else.

Over the years I've become SO much better. I am absolutely picky now. Either it is a bonafide resale item (calculation done on difficulty to ship, ease of listing, profit margin, etc.) OR it is just something I have to have for my own home because I love it so much. And typically, that means something else is going out.

It is good practice to skip an estate sale.

I'd have jumped on that one. There were some things in those jewelry cases making my nose twitch. Probably cost too much, but you never know.

I find that the professionally run 3 day estate sales usually (..usually) don't have screaming deals on jewelry. But as you say, you never know.

I think you made a very wise choice spring!!!:happy::happy:

If you had gone to that sale by mid next week you would be showing us your new larger hoardatorium. ;):D:D:D:D
