    Hello, back again with another Guanyin. It's a twenty-six hand version. This piece was brought in at the same time as the Thousand-hand Guanyin (my previous thread). Now I know for sure that it's Chinese.
    I love this more compared to the thousand hand Guanyin.

    Material: Assuming its rosewood
    Height: 60 inches
    Lenght: 38 inches

    Very heavy and delicate handling is required. every arm (by both sides) can be detached along with the tiny figures

    Beautiful, and more elegant than the other one. Although the other one has great presence. I don't think this one is that much older than the other one.
    Rosewood is a name for different woods. So yes, rosewood for both, but which ones...

    Exactly, makes me wonder on the amount of control and patience the artist held on to.

    Rosewood? Does it have any smell? Rosewood is a wide discription, it could be Pterocarpus santalinus, ebony or even agilawood if it feels very heavy.
    If it is tested as high quality antique agliawood...then, this piece could be almost same price as gold.

    We'll probably have to get it tested then. no smell that I know of. I didn't know there were variations to rosewood!

    Yes. it is supposed to be all wood without any inserts. What your dad did could breakdown the collection value of this piece.

    It also makes her look more recent than she actually is. If you want to sell her, or the other one, it is best to take them off.

    Thanks guys! yes, we are very much aware of what you guys had mentioned. This piece came with an empty incision kinda thing? So my dad had placed the stone there, it's easily removable. Good thing that you guys reminded me, I will have to remove before I send photos over to auction houses! thanks!:)

    @Asian Fever
    Actually, many Guan Yin figures also come with an indent in the center of the forehead to indicate a third eye called an urna. It symbolizes a third eye, which in turn symbolizes vision into the divine world; a sort of ability to see past our mundane universe of suffering.
