Jadite? JADE or Nephrite RHINO

HI! We have this large rhino sculpture that is a green stone. I’m hoping you can help us determine which stone it is made of.

It measures approximately 15” long x 9” high x 6” wide. Weight is 20#

Although I don’t have an expensive MOHs reader, our diamond tester shows it at 8 (or so) hardness.

Any help and/or suggestions are appreciated! TIA

 

Have you considered verdite? It looks like some Shona rhinos I think.

 

I was thinking maybe some variety of serpentine. Say it slowly is probably onto something with the verdite though.

 

Verdite would make sense I guess since a rhino and the stone are from the same continent

 

When I look at images of verdite it doesn’t appear as light in color as this item does.

Shona stone is a serpentine with a hardness of 3-6,verdite only has a hardness of 3 according to most websites.

 

Buddstone is a trade name for a mottled green stone related to Verdite. Buddstone is sometimes called “South African Jade” as it is only found in that location
