Featured Need help identifying antique dagger

    The sheath looks like it may have had a frog....so ya ...military is the 1st thing I go to...
    but to be frank...it's not a blade i know off hand...

    The stud thingy at the big end of the sheath is often found on bayonet sheaths. I’d invite some ex-spurts but they need dimensions.

    Those are awesome pictures of similar blades! Yeah this one really piqued my interest I think I'll eventually take it in for an evaluation, appreciate your help!

    I think that you're on the right track with a plug bayonet. It's definitely well made. The sheath or scabbard looks like sharkskin as used so much in Asian swords? Why roses or tulips? The cutout figure looks like the porpoise or dragon used so much in Asian artwork? The clam shell was used quite a bit in German knives. The clam or scallop shell was evidently important and emphasized by the cut-out in the sheath. In conclusion, I think it belonged to a Dutch-German, Japanese man who had a blunderbuss....
