    Hi:

Is anyone familiar with the gold hallmark CL10k ?

I am assuming CL is the maker and the jewelry made from 10k gold. I found a reference on another site that CL can in some cases indicate that the piece is gold "clad" as opposed to solid. Then someone else commented that was rubbish. I have been around a while and I have never heard that "CL" could mean gold "clad" - I assume they meant plated.

This mark is on some earrings I am looking to purchase and believe to be 10K - I don't want to spend the money and then find out I am wrong about this and they are just plated.

Any comments and other knowledge about this mark? I tried to look up the maker "CL" but have not had any luck.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply - here is the photo the seller sent. You can see it says 10K by the hinge and "CL10K" on the post.

Can you show the entire piece, please?

is that a mark on the earring itself where the plating has rubbed off......

    I'd stay away from these.......

Thanks - I am thinking the same thing - though I have taken some photos of jewelry that looks marked or rubbed and it is just a reflection.

I just thought someone may be familiar with the mark or the reference to gold "clad". It will take a trip into town to see them up close and given your reservations probably not worth the time and gas. Thanks again.

The photo supplied to me is very poor and I thought I would explore the maker's mark before going any further with this. From the comments and my own reservations I think I will skip these. I will try to get better photos next time. thanks for everyone's comments!
