Antique silver/bronze matchstick case

    Thought I would show this one. No maker marks, nicely detailed.

    Not sure what age it is from.

    Could be plated copper. The fastening looks like brass. How big is it?

    Sweet - the wear to the silverplating is attractive. Table vesta/match holder, would think dating around the 1880s...

    It is about three inches across. You are right, the fastening and feet are brass. The actual box appears to be plated copper.

    Well, can't see much use for a striker on a stamp box...

    point taken....just seems off, to strike a match so close to all the other matches....un shielded like that.....i'm used to strikers being on the outside away from trouble.....;):happy::happy:

    Interesting bird... I wonder what it is supposed to be? It is striding with long-ish legs. Seems an odd looking head shape in relation to the body.
