    Hi all,
I have purchased this cross, and was wondering if anyone can identify the age, motif and stone. Stones look orange red if they are on a surface, but has hues of purple and brown if they are hold against the light. They are transparent, except for the middle one, is a bit blurry, with inclusion. I have tried UV light and they are not rubby.
Please let me know your thoughts.
It is a big cross, chunky, but beautiful.
I also can't upload any more photos as I have a error message " the file is to large" . Please help. Screenshot_20210221-211419_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20210221-211433_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20210221-211444_Gallery.jpg
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,

Sterling and garnets. It's not old. There are instructions for resizing pictures. If you don't have photo software handy and you're on a phone, email them to yourself and pick the size as "medium". Save the pictures and post the "medium" ones.

Just curious for my own knowledge - is this really considered a 'cross'? To me it just looks floral.

I'd call it a cross, yes. And garnets.

It looks like a cross to me too, and they come in all sorts of designs.

    Hello again,
I have managed to upload more photos on side view.
I wonder if anyone can comment on the style, design motif etc and age. @Fid @Any Jewelry @KSW
The cross was in a bad state when I bought it and the crevices at the back were full of dirt, so I cleaned it properly with water, soap and then with silver polish cleaner. I know that it is not ideal to clean that much, but this one I had to. Also one marcansise stone came off in the process.
As regards to the stones, I also thought that they are garnet, but when I hold it against a natural light they became completely purple, like amethyst, first time I have seen this. I have other garnet jewlery, but they don't shift so much colour when held against natural light.
Finally, the design looks a bit like fleur de lis in my eyes, what do you think?
I am looking forward to reading your comments.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

It’s very pretty. I wonder if the bail at the top helps date it at all?. I don’t think I’ve seen that on very modern pieces.
@Any Jewelry is your lady for pinning down more details of its origins if she can.
Now you have cleaned it can you take a photo held up to natural light so we can see the colour?
The Marcasite can be replaced quite easily. If it’s glued in you can use GS-Hypo glue NOT SuperGlue!.
If I was looking at it the 925 would make me think it’s quite modern but WDIK!

It is lovely, Simona. As the others said, it is a modern piece.
I can't say for sure, but I think it could be Chinese made in a Western style. I have seen similar items, also with garnets or garnet glass, that said 'China'.

Thank you for your reply Amy.
It just look antique, the silver is porous around the middle stone, with small holes , blackened. Can you advise on what Western cross it can be a copy of.
My mum liked it, so I gift it to her, for the moment I can't take any more photos, I will update next time she visits.
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

It isn't a copy of a traditional style, it just plays around with floral/leaf shaped elements. The basic shape is a Roman cross:

The porosity of the silver is due to the quality of casting, which is not perfect. It is not age related.

JMHO. the claws of the setting look too "coarse" for Europe.

That is typical of recent Asian mass production. Probably China, but I wouldn't rule our Thailand.
