Picked this up over the weekend. The moment I saw it, I knew it was something special. When I held it up to the light, the light shone through as a soft amber, and I realized it might be opaline glass. The bottom has a polished pontil. No signature as far as I can tell. Any thoughts on the age or origin?

Thank you :) So it is indeed opaline glass?

The glass exhibits opalescent qualities. "Opaline" is a word which has been used to describe those qualities. More important is the quality of the enamel decoration, which is nice.

If the base has a rough pontil mark, it could be called English Bristol Glass.

But it was still made in Bohemia ca. 1900 plus or minus.

It has a smooth one. It's polished smoothly on the bottom, but you can tell it was hand-blown.

    Hey Cherryhill,

What are your thoughts on this opaline glass bottle, about 6.5 inches tall? Bohemian or French?

French is a foreign country, it doesn't look Bohemian, the shape/form is wrong. To remove a bit of mystery, the opalescence is achieved by mixing a bit of bone ash in the batch. Tin compounds make it white.
