From the reseller's treasures comes this vase with no attribution. If it is Sommerso, then perhaps the design is distinctive enough that someone might recognize it. When I say distinctive, I mean the sides are flat, while ends are round - like a chubby fat vase was cleaved off on both sides. It was hard to show it in pictures. The height is 6 1/2 inches, the narrow side is 3 1/2 inches and wide side is approximately 6 inches. It is highly polished. My scale, which tops off at 7 lbs, screamed overload, so I can't tell you anything but that it is dense and heavy. The predominate color is purple, the line is blue and the base is clear. I will continue to search but if someone knows who makes this, I would appreciate a shout out. Any other comments will also be appreciated.

For some reason I don't understand, it wouldn't let me post this picture of the bottom, which is polished and unmarked.

Not really a reproduction of anything, if it is a a piece made in China keep in mind they have been producing glass for a very very long time!
Italian glass in this form is rarely cut, although some makers do facet their stuff but that is usually pretty distinctive.

Good point. Its very pretty and I'm quite happy with it. He didn't say it was Italian. I was just looking at the colors and the defined stripe and I thought Italian. Thanks for your insight.

Lovely colours. The blue works so well with the purple. It will look lovely with some flowers in it :)

It's trying to be a Seguso style piece in one of the Flavio Poli designs, but these are not usually cut. Plenty of Italian makers did cut pieces, perhaps Mandruzzato is the most famous. Lots of Italian makers copied the style, so did the Bohemians in the 80's and the Chinese more recently. Very hard to separate them although the Chinese ones don't usually have the quality of style or make of Italian examples.

Much Chinese glass historically had real quality. Just like any other origin, you get high end and low. I've seen some dire Murano made. There's some superb modern Chinese weights out there,

This looks to be modern, probably Chinese. It's very well done.

Thanks so much for this. Unfortunately, when they use paper stickers, the source disappears. Mine definitely appears to be cut. I saw the Flavio ones, when I was researching this vase before I posted. I couldn't tell if they were cut or smooth by the photos, so this is very helpful. I will have to look up Mandruzzato.
This vase is well done. The lines between the colors are well defined. The piece is nicely polished. The colors are rich. I am trying to learn how to spot the good stuff, so your detailed comments are greatly appreciated.

I usually equate modern Chinese with chintzy, sloppy and poorly executed - I know this is prejudiced, but we, in the US, are the targets of a steady stream of cheap junk that is referential. It's good to know they can produce modern quality things. I'm very happy with the piece, even with it's anonymity. Thank you.

I disagree, having handled quite a few; quality on some pieces is unsurpassed. If you've only handled the Winners or TJ Maxx stuff, then you would come to that conclusion.

You need to go to more glass fairs. There's a great deal of excellent stuff out there.

I appreciate your perspective. I have a few real quality pieces and this presents in that range to me, but my knowledge is very spare. Thank you.

I agree it is difficult to find the better stuff. That's why I come here. Sometimes I am disappointed, but it helps with the learning curve a lot. I thank you for your thoughts. It is so important to get many viewpoints.
