Featured Help Identifying Geode

Hi. Picked this up today for $3. Figured I couldn't go wrong at that price, even if it's chipped up. For now it'll go on the windowsill.
Clear Quartz? Amythyst?

I thought so; wasn't 100% sure, though, as the ones I've found and seen before had much smaller crystals.

I'm considering chiseling it down and polishing up some of the stones for my girlfriend to make jewelry with. Worth doing or best left to a pro?

 

Leave the chiseling to a pro. Keep it like it is.......great conversation piece.

 

Here's an idea. Take the girlfriend on a road trip to Crater of Diamonds in AK. Lots of fun, great banded jasper there, and maybe find a diamond. Maybe even to the great Lakes (Western shores in Michigan) Great place to find Agate and a whole bunch of Pretty stones for Jewelry making. Petosky Stones are findable and make nice jewelry. (look them up). Even get adventurous and head into the UP to lake superior and look for YOOPERLITES at night. Many Good Youtube videos on Great Lakes rockhounding.

 

Since you live in the NE,skip breaking the crystals in the geode and try the Herkimer diamond mine. https://herkimerdiamond.com/

 

I'd leave the amethyst as found. It looks like the crystals are sitting on some blue lace agate just to make things better. It's too good to mess with.

 

Leave it be, people buuy those as is for decent prices.

I've got a Petosky stone necklace. Back in the old ebay boards days, it was a Gift Exchange from a nice person.

 

Keep as is and where is, window sill.

 

My father was a geologist. he would say leave it be like the hundreds of Specimens i inherited. That is a nice size .

 

Keep out of direct sunlight though, no matter the sparkle. Some amethysts fade with sun exposure and that piece is too nice. Of course if it's "enhanced" somehow then who cares.
