IMG_5200.JPG IMG_5201.JPG IMG_5202.JPG IMG_5205.JPG Does someone know what how old this chair might be? What style is it?

It was collected by my grandfather in Western Canada. Looks like it was very poorly refinished with a red rub that over wood that wasn't stripped properly. Hope that wasn't Grandpa's work haha.

The seat is supported with a big spring that no longer holds weight so someone installed a board to keep you from falling through.

Anyway, any help knowing more about this would be appreciated. Happy antiquing.

I'd say Empire Revival ca. 1910. The wood looks to be mahogany; I'd wager the rubbed-looking finish is original. The upholstery is obviously not. If you're going to keep the chair, I suggest a reupholstery project with a more period-appropriate textile.

Ghopper is right on. Maybe part of a parlor set originally. I don't hate the leather/vinyl.
