image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Before anything is said, I'm aware this is a vintage print on board and probably nothing special. I got it because I liked it. The reason I'm posting this is, I can't seem to find this painting online and the artist I'm having problems finding.

I'm sure someone knows this paint and probably thinks I'm dumber than a box of rocks, but

I assume this is supposed to be Louis Simon Cabaillot LaSalle? The preferred spelling of his name is Lassalle. I have searched under both and can not come up with this. Can't find it searching a lot of different ways of searching.

I find it odd that this appears to be signed with a marking pen. Makes me wonder if this is not the original print for this frame and someone just signed it to match the plate. However, I could find no other painting with this title for LaSalle/Lassalle.

Are Louis Simon Cabaillot-LaSalle and Camille-Leopold Cabaillot-LaSalle husband and wife? I have found at least 1 print by Camille-Leopold Cabaillot-LaSalle that looks very very similar in style and composition to this print. I wonder if this print is by Camille rather than Louis. All the following are reproductions.

    Here are others by Camille:

I could only find one by Louis Cabaillot-LaSalle.

I did see mention of "Woodland Meeting" by LaSalle. It was on an Art forum. Someone who had "Woodland Meeting" by LaSalle was asking its worth. No one replied to the query and no picture.

I'm with Brad as to the signature. It certainly looks to be signed with a sharpie marker. If it looks that way to you too, Armando, then I'd suspect it to be a fake.

In the 1950s and 60s paintings were produced for sale emulating 18th & 19th C. scenes. They were sold as prints in schlock art shops, each framed with a brass plaque with a credible sounding French or Italian [artist's] name.

These are still for sale in some retail venues and appear on eBay from time to time.

I think this is one of them. Nothing to do with artist Louis Cabaillot-LaSalle. Not a fake as such.

One can see from the small bit of facture visible in the close up that the painting is almost certainly 20th Century.

My guess is the hand signature was added later.

Of course, without much better photos it's best to reserve final judgement.

Interesting. Obviously produced by the same shop. The better photograph clearly shows it's a 20th Century painting.

Bernard Picture Co. was well known for producing these.

I didn't mean the print was a fake, I meant the signature with a sharpie marker.

Perhaps I should have used the word "forgery" for the signature meant to deceive? I'd prefer to see a typed version of the artist's name on a print.

JMHO. generic. there's many with titles like "rendez-vous dans la fôret de Fontainebleau/ Bois de Boulogne :woot:".
or it may even be that the original got lost or was misnamed.

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come out of the Blue Chip catalog. Period and quality just right.

And 'Rendez-vous dans la fôret de Fontainebleau' sounds just right.
