    Hi all,

Its Calum but i've had to create a new login.

Ive got another couple of tribal items that I would love your expert opinion on. The first must be for storing something but I ament sure what? Some kind of divination objects? Gunpowder?? The figure is of a woman and may be pregnant. It definitely looks African and i've seen similar carvings attributed to the Lula.

The second I think is a staff and have no idea where it is from. Appears quite old

    Cheers,

The second one looks to me more of a tool than a staff. Maybe some kind of churn or mixer?

With regard to the "staff" - does the hole I see on the shaft go all the way through, so that you could insert a rod through it? Can you determine if the corrugated section near the top (as you have it oriented) is a series of rings, or do the grooves form a spiral like screw threads? How many vanes are on the top (I can see 3, but are there 4)?

The hole only goes part way through and there is no screw, only rings. Looks as though it must have been made using a lathe. 4 vanes, heres another couple pics:

I have found large pestle and mortars, but they don’t have fins at all.
