    Definitely a Beechcraft Staggerwing Model 17. The first 2 originals were painted red. They were built in 1934-1936. The B17L was really the first production model and I believe the one in your painting. The first Staggerwing to have pneumatically retractable landing gear.
    One of the model 17R is hanging from the ceiling at the Beechcraft delivery center 10511 E Central Wichita, KS 67206
    If you were ever in Wichita KS call ahead & I bet they would let you see it if you brought your painting.

    I'm guessing that this is a pastel, like the two that can be seen on-line?
