    Good day, all.

I came across these photos in a WWII GI's photo album that I purchased at an estate sale. I don't have any history, in terms of where he was stationed, or the context in which these photos were taken. He seemed to draw a fairly large crowd that followed him. Whether this was a parade, I can't say as I've only got these tight-cropped shots. I don't have them in front of me, but from memory, they were about 3.5" x 5" photos.

I was thinking he could have been a boxer, based on his look.

I wonder if it's the person you can't see, the one with his back in the first photo, that is the famous one.

Not to state the obvious, but why would the person with the camera be taking a photo of that guy when everyone is looking behind him?

Could the guy in the 1st picture be a baseball player? Isnt that a baseball cap hes wearing? The fact they are all jubilant, and the one kid is doing the "we're number one" thing with his finger, leads me to wonder if this is some sort of victory parade?

I believe the kid you mention is holding a jacket over his shoulder with his index finger, johnny. But some sort of parade is not out of the question here. Thanks

I don't know why the person with the camera would be so intent on that guy if the famous person (or the action) was behind her/him.

We can speculate all day about what is not in the photo. Maybe there was some commotion in that direction. It's entirely possible that someone in the crowd yelled something at him or did something to get his attention and that caused the bystanders to point. I just can't get by the fact that the person with the camera was so set on capturing the dude in the shot.

I was thinking maybe in front of an Adams hotel, but searching building fronts of the time couldn’t find this with the no parking sign. So maybe some other bldg. :(

From appearances, he doesn't appear to be a gentleman. This is an instance where context matters. By "GI," are you telling us that these photographs are likely to have been taken in the U.S.? Given the large number of able-bodied men standing about, unlikely to have been taken during wartime. What came before and after them in the album?

I was being polite on the "gentleman" thing :).

They were taken in the US, for sure. None of the photos were marked and there were no indications in the book as to where they were taken.

There were some shots with him and his wife with him in and out of uniform. Was in the Navy. Don't know where he was stationed. Some of the shots had palm trees, which doesn't help a great deal.

    Thanks everyone.

That's the kind of cap that Babe Ruth often wore when in public. Dennis

Not to kick a proverbial dead horse, but I found another photo in the set with the dude. To me, it seems like everyone is kind of lined up and standing still and he's walking down the middle of the street. Notice the kid in the lower left from the previous shots and the sign on the building, looks like, "THE ADAMS [something]".

    Anyway, here's the shot:

I have already checked Adams Hotel, see above post. One of your earlier photo shows ADAM, anyway it’s worth re-checking.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

Are there any other photos in the album that would give clues to where the soldier (whose album you have) was stationed?

I actually split the album up a while ago, but nothing other than having palm trees in some of the shots gives any clue to the location. As I need help mentions, determining where the Adams Hotel was located may offer a clue as to where this is.
