I purchased these two, carved, small (3 inch +) figures that appear to be Inuit style. The one with the seal slung over his back is jade. He appears to be trudging along with his head down carrying his prize. The second man, who is standing with his head slightly downward and his hands held in front, is from a black stone with small green flecks. The carving on this piece is deeper and unpolished. There are no marks on the pieces, but the jade one once had a sticker on the base because there is glue residue. I paid a lot of money for them even though they were unsigned. I hope they are Inuit. Please tell me what you think.

Despite the subject matter neither piece looks Inuit. The jade piece is most likely by a Chinese carver living in British Columbia. Not sure about the other one but possibly same origin. I hope you didn’t pay too much.

IMO , neither is Inuit made.
The jade is BC nephrite , and the Chinese carve these for the tourist market.
That black one....I can't guess at...

It's a nice chunk of jade. Where detailing is called for, the carving is very perfunctory.

Thanks for the honest response. I should have known better than to pay a lot of money for something I didn’t know anything about.

Thank you. I have bought all kinds of tourist jade things in Canada. Just haven’t spent this much. I like the figures so they will just go with my other rock pieces.
