Our local town newspaper posted a test from 1888 - any school students hoping to go on to High School had to pass this!!! If you had to get them ALL correct, not sure I would have made it back then as Math and I DO NOT and NEVER have gotten along!!!!
Here's the test, but don't post your answers on line....it's just for fun for you at home!!! I'll post the CORRECT answers in a couple of days if you want!!!!:):):):)

Oh dear, I took a look and decided not to even try. Readin, writin and rithmetic are not as easy as back when I was a youngin.
    And math was never easy.:(

Thanks for posting this @Aquitaine. I look forward to the answers, but won’t mention how I scored. :jawdrop:

I'm so with @komokwa - number ten is not worthy of an answer.

It's a bit like what the GPS navigation systems have reduced us to today. Years ago, one had to have the ability to read maps, judge road distances, know what direction you're heading is by looking at the sky, etc. To a large degree, technology has compromised our fundamental skills.

Did anyone try #12? It would be one thing if all the quantities could be expressed in 27ths, but once you divide 63/27 by 192/27, you have a mess on your hands. Think they gave you the answer; it's: What?

Assumption of facts not in evidence! I lived a lot of years driving in the wrong direction and wondering "where in the blue $#%! am I?"

    Not any more.

Plus, I have a whole host of skills for which my ancestors would likely burn me at the stake. :hilarious:

I can get most of them. Division my non-decimal fractions is a little dicey. River transport...not a clue. I'd be using freight lines or US 80 anyway. :)

Q:You're paddling upstream when your outboard loses a tire .How many pancakes does it take to shingle a doghouse?
A:42, because ice cream doesn't have any bones...

By deciding it was 1/9 & not the 1/s it looked to me last night. Now it does look like 1/5, requiring a rethink. Have to feed the cats right now, but looks like it may be doable as 135ths.
