    Hi Everyone,

I have here a very curious leather wallet...I will continue to share anything unusual I come across.

Is anyone familiar with the style, type of leather and or era?

Could it be German with the reference to Wilhelm?

It is the scenery that is intriguing and work that has gone into producing it that is interesting.

It looks like a book cover. How big is it?

:pompous:hmm it could be, I didn't think of that option - it's 5 inches high, by 3.5 wide.

I have a few of these but they are 9x7 and the interior flap is smaller so maybe not.

What a great patina and wonderful survivor - anticipating the mobile phone case 100 years early!

I can see the style of the imprint there, but yeah I agree maybe not a book cover.

    That's a pocket notebook cover.

You can do some internet research to see if Germany had paper marks directly after unification and, if so, the bill size.

Great detective thinking! So it took me a little while, but I found this site which provides dimensions of the notes:

    http://www.wegewitz-web.de/shop/rch12-1871.htm

The 5 denominations would fit well, at 125mm x 80mm - sticking out slightly in the middle. Then again, the notes could have been folded.
