Featured Dating Vienna? plate

    This is a very fine mounded porcelain plate. It has the Vienna shield in underglaze blue plus artist’s mark and io impressed twice. No sign of any gilding so I am tending to think it’s an early one.

    Any thoughts?

    Agree, the basket weave rim, spiral fluting and impressed mark would figure for 1800/20. How is the brush work?

    Good quality. I bought 13 of these. Sadly ten are chipped.

    Shame, always they way though these days. I don't have any good literature on Vienna, would be good if the impressed marks could be tied to something. The bloom colours and forms are reminiscent of Nantgarw/Swansea from the 1800/20 period.

    I don't know if this helps but it's from Rontgen's book. It has to do with the overglaze numbers.

    I saw this but they don’t really look like numbers although they could be. Date would be about right too.

    do we know what the "IO" means? Ive seen them recently probably on a Vienna plate and I was wondering.

    No. I’ve been trying but not luck. It’s iO (lower and upper case) on mine.
