A Silver 1000/1000 dish 28cm 370 grams

Hello !

in a batch of objects I noticed this dish marked ARG. 1000/1000

so it should be pure silver.

It should be a bit old, as there are scratches of usage and differences in lucidity.

I would like to ask you if, by your point of view, pure silver with time can present different areas of lucidity and shades of gray? (Refer to the photos, please)

I have tested silver with the relative acid and the color of the reagent immediately becomes bright red, but this does not give me a certain guarantee, because both solid silver and silver plated, on the surface offer silver, so I did another test, I scratched the back to see what was underneath the possible silver patina, and it always appeared silver, or anyway a shiny color like silver (refer to the photos 19 and 20 please)

BUT I found very small points of rust, circles of about 1 mm wide and thin lines near the edge (see photo number 13 and 18 please)

A pure 1000/1000 silver with the passing of the years, can create a hint of rust?

At this point both the hallmark and the evidence should guarantee me the purity of silver, but these little hints of rust worry me.

Is there any other evidence I could make to remove all my doubts?

You will understand that as it is 370 grams and wanting to resell it, I am looking for every kind of certainty also through your competence.

even the finest of silver bars are only 999.9 , and you can see how soft this one looks that the stamps moved the metal.
I've never seen 1000/1000.....& don't see how it could be made into that kind of dish.........
but that's just me thinking out loud !

 

There is a lot of silver loss, so not much chance of selling it. I hope the rest of the batch will give you a profit.

Per cui, quando ci si trova di fronte a una punzonatura 1000/1000 su un oggetto in argento, si tratta di un manufatto in metallo semplicemente argentato e non d’argento.

Silver 1000/1000, or pure silver, is so ductile and malleable that it is impossible to process it and then make objects, such as a candlestick.

Therefore, when you are faced with a 1000/1000 punching on a silver object, it is a product made of simply silvered metal and not silver.

So it's a 1000/1000 plated Silver, ok I will just put it next to the other plated objects

It looks like stainless steel.
I would believe 999/1000, but not 1000/1000

I've seen similar marks on Italian silver plate. It refers to the fineness of the plating rather than the object.

 

The "ARG." is an abbreviation for "Argentato" (silver plated)...
