At first I thought the white area within the mouth was like the eyes, fins, etc. applied, but I think as one of the pictures shows, the white covers the interior of the glass. You can see it peaking through the scales. There are a lot of these fish out there. I got lost, so I came here to see if anyone recognizes the country of origin.
    Its interesting characteristics are:
    1. It has a swish in its tail, so it is somewhat different that the static ones.
    2. It is cased glass
    3. The scales start off blue and change to purple midway.
Otherwise, it is pretty much the same as the others. It is 9 inches long and 5 1/4 inches tall at its highest point. No tags or marks. Anybody have an idea?

Hoo, glass fish, so many countries made them.

I don't think it's quite fine enough for one of the better Murano makers, but the colours do suggest Italian rather than Romanian. (And not Malta)

Excellent. Good information about the colors. I agree, there is a definite difference between the really good ones and these more pedestrian pieces, but I really like it. Thank you.

Thank you very much Davey. Then it will go into my Murano collection (which is very small).

I don't see as much muted color in Murano, and you are right, they are very appealing. I love how they made the scales.

You can't see by the photos, but the fins and tail are very natural in shape like they are bending and riffling in the water as the fish swims along.

Thank you for this Pearls. I have a very loudly color art glass fish already and now he has a friend to swim around with. :)

My friend recently got a similar one from TJMAXX. This isn’t to say yours *isn’t* Murano. Just pointing out they are probably made other places as well.

This is always the way when you buy unlabeled things at a thrift store. Sometimes even the labels are deceptive. I bought it because I liked it. Not because it was Murano or Chinese or Bohemian. I do place things in my house based on my perceived quality of a piece, though. That's why I ask. I generally do not buy for resale, but sometimes I will sell something that I have had for a while that is better. Mostly I re-donate. In my opinion, it is important to have accurate information here, as it is a place to learn. I appreciate you sharing your experience and thoughts.

That’s the best reason to buy something :)

I shop very similarly, just buying what I like and researching later. I do like to research value because I get a big thrill out of an amazing bargain but regardless of value I like it and keep it.

Though once in a while I’ll sell an item just to cover all my buying : -)

    Enjoy your find!!
