Featured help with carved wood figure

    It does look like a shillelagh. So, bowler, barefoot, possibly drunk, with a shillelagh. Looks like a caricature of an Irishman (unfortunately). The carving itself reminds me of the Black Forest German/Swiss carvings.

    I would be looking at Anri or Black Forest Bookends.
    I think you have one of a pair.

    Fid, I thought that - it's like a wooden version of those slightly naff 1960s ones. Much better made though.

    yeah, better. don't know if anyone knows if it could be an old ANRI ? or from that place in northern Italy that is famous for its wooden boxes.

    Personally, I would have missed the mark on the bottom too, it’s blinding :)

    hi fid, its a puzzling one. never heard of anri before this thread, will look into it

    im starting to lean more black forest though, with those broad notch carved areas, cerainly in style
