I have this plate which has been in the family for a long time, I’m not sure where it came from originally and I can’t make out the markings on the back. It appears to be hand painted and has gold dust sprinkled on it.
Any ideas on where it came from and the value of it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help

From that picture of the bottom, I'm guessing that there's an impressed mark somewhere? Using cinnamon (or another dark colored powder) to fill in the impressions may help you (and us) to read at least some of the letters.

It's pre-WWII but pre-1940 or pre-1920 I haven't an earthly. If the design is painted by hand, it might be more like 1900. If it's transfer it could be late 30s. Odds are the blank is German, but beyond that..dunno.

Country of origin is probably all you can get. I can see there's an impressed mark, but whether Germany or Austria I don't know. This is usually called a nappy, and less frequently a lemon server.

    Welcome to Antiquers. :)

Style-wise, it makes me think of the 1930s or 40s. But that's just an impression.

upload_2018-10-7_9-19-20.jpeg Thanks for all the replies, I tried the cinnamon but it still very hard to make out as the indentation is very light. I think the plate would be older than post WW 1 . My grandmother died in 1976 and at that stage the plate had been sitting on a shelf in the laundry basically forgotten about for 30 odd years covered in dust, the family emigrated from Prussia in the 1850s as to whether the plate goes back that far I don’t know.
    Cheers.

Maybe you can try a closer shot of the mark now that it’s darkened.

When I first looked at this, my thoughts went straight to lemon server. However, the ruler looks to read 9". That is way too big for a lemon server, which are normally 4-5".

Not sure what this would be called.

Are you or was your family in California?
Has sort of a 1940s California pottery look.
The decoration is unusual in that it appears to be airbrushed and then highlighted

I don't know who made your dish. Neither do I know how old it is however in style it reminds me of more modern dishes. I keep thinking second half of the 20th C.

Hm. Ware it might well be. Not Carlton, though, it's wrong for that.
