Couldn't resist grabbing this tonight - pastel on paper - 18x24 inches (45x60cm). Reminds me of Fauvist/expressionist - kind of - amost like a Dufy floral. Does anyone see a sig/mark anywhere? I've looked all over and don't see one but maybe it's hiding in the flowers somewhere. To me the paper seems older than the frame it came in (which frame seems to be made in the last 30 years or so). Opinions/thoughts welcome. Thanks again for taking the time to look!

Pic in the frame at the store with store lighting is first - the rest at home after removing from frame -different light source (I have no idea if this is oriented correctly):

Difficult to say. The people in the store seemed to think it was the other way around, but I don't know. Could even be sideways......
Whichever way, it is very pretty.

Relative to nothing but it looks very much like a shirt I had back in the 80s that was based on a Chagall print. Almost identical ! I loved that shirt, and I LOVE this picture.

Chagall crossed my mind too when staring at this.

I hate to say it, but my first thought was someone's 9 year-old.(LOL) Some of the coolest pictures I've seen in the last 20 years were by little kids who don't know "you're not supposed to do that".

Al Hirschfeld if memory serves. He worked his daughter's name into his drawings.

Sorry, just got back here now. Yes, Al Hirschfield's drawing was always the first thing I turned to in The Times. Frequently, I forgot who the celebrity was -- but I remembered where I found all the Ninas.

What wonders me is, I, who save all kinds of things, never saved those. Where was my head??!!!

Anyone ever see his Liza Minelli? Fabulous!

    Hi Silver,
There is a book with all his drawings from the Times. I have a copy somewhere around here.

Of course you do!! :) :)

I have always imagined Leslie Ward met Hirschfield at St. Peter's gate, with a proper British handshake, and Al saying, "I was dying to meet you!"
