Featured Antique pin cushion doll

This jumped into my hand at a local estate sale, I’m convinced it has significant age but I don’t know just how much. I’m also wondering if anyone can offer ideas for its origin? Possibly French or German? I’m not even quite sure what the half doll is made of, at first I thought wood but now I’m thinking pottery as it is cool to the touch. Or maybe composition? Or chalkware? All the ones I'm seeing online are porcelain.
It does appear that one elbow was broken off and cleanly re-attached, and there is some shattering of the fabric of her skirt.
It is 7 inches high and The base is 5 inches in diameter.
And, yes, I did try gently cleaning her with a bit of dish soap on a sponge. It didn’t do much, if anything.

Don't you hate it when that happens? Some antiques are so pushy. She is gorgeous though, so I can imagine you didn't really do much to get rid of her.

I think @judy also knows about half dolls.

 

Looks to be some sort of compo. She reminds me of the 1920's era boudoir dolls.

 

I think I may have a book on half dolls.........let me check.

Most of them were made of porcelain.

 

This one definitely isn't porcelain.
Age... 1920s or 30s, maybe?

 

I do have a few books on the subject, but mine are for the china or bisque pincushion dolls.

Thhanks! She seems quite the the Baitz dolls... should I take her apart to check for signature(s)? Is the value in the half doll itself and not the pin cushion? (Assuming there is any value in my doll...)

 

Yes, the doll. However, some collectors do like them with their original cushions....on the other hand, many just collect the dolls.

I'm not seeing the quality of Baitz, but it could be the photos.

 

Most of the dolls are marked on the back quite close to where it would be covered by the fabric.

 

I was able to get the "skirt" quite far down (though not all the way) and I saw no marks.
Do you have any idea of her age?
Oddly, she has molded hair under the wig. I wonder if the wig is homemade by someone wanting to spiff her up a bit. It's lightly glued on and feels like human hair but I don't know for sure. The ribbon of the hair net is simple curling ribbon, very faded.

 

I noticed that, and wondered the same. First I thought she was wearing a bonnet, but it is hair.
