Hi all, happy Monday! Found this tiny pendant amongst a jewelry lot that I bought recently (it's only 1.5"L). It was almost black (it's much cleaner now than it was!). Is is testing as silver although not marked, is that unusual? The stone is dark blue/purple glass. Any idea of age? Thank you!

No, it's not, especially older pieces.

Great thanks all! I appreciate how you can date such pieces, I really wouldn't know if it was Edwardian vs Deco for example-it's a minefield to me!

It's sweet, but dating can be tricky because pieces like this have been made for the last 30 years also!

The stone may be black glass or onyx.

Thanks! I think it's glass, it has a dark purplish tone to it.

Looks to me at that size that it may have originally been an earring that someone put a ring on.

I was wondering what tell-tale signs gives the approximate age on this piece. Trying to learn more about antique jewelry. I hope y’all don’t mind the question.

Hm. For me, it's partly the softness of that patina on the back, it says age. The setting style with those included marcasites, the bit of wear on the stone. And the overall look. The back is also well finished.

Yes you could be right, I hadn't thought of that!

Me three. It's either an earring dangle, or a dangle that's lost its necklace.
