Hi everyone, id love to here your opinions on this stone statue that I recently picked up. I got it at an auction and unfortunately don't know anything about it at all.

I've found similar pieces attributed to he Sapi people..

    Thanks a lot, Calum

Are you sure it's stone? I'm no expert, but the white section of the broken breast doesn't look right. Stone is usually a uniform color all the way through. It could be an applied patina though.

    It appears to be soapstone

It could be pottery as well. I have an old African pottery figure. I don’t recall the tribe that made it but I’ll dig around. It was definitely a “crude” material used to make mine.

I don't know anything about your little tribal figure, but I have to ask, what is the house plant on the left? The one with the purple leaves and little pale purple blossoms? I think I have to have one of those now! It's beautiful.

Its Oxalis :) they're beautiful ay. I haven't tried but i believe that you can grow them from seed. They like lots of light so only do well next to a window, in Scotland at least

It might be a nomoli (a stone carving attributed to the Sapi culture), but so little is known about these that, without provenance, it may not be possible to be sure.
