Are these silver or otherwise marks?

View attachment 147222 View attachment 147222 Bought this for a few dollars for a Halloween decoration, noticed what looked like marks on the bottom and used some silver polish to accentuate them.

 

There isn't anything in those marks that says "silver" or even silverplated to me. Could be pewter, though.

 

Ok.
I always thought pewter didn't tarnish so. This has a layer of tarnish that is coming off with polish.
It's heavy but I guess as a candle holder it's weighted.
Anyway, it's serving its Halloween purpose. I was just curious.

 

Tarnish is often as much grunge and grease as oxidation of the silver, so using "silver polish" will cut through that too.

And it certainly "could" be silverplated, but there is nothing in the marks that I am familiar with.

 

So, I had it upside down.
I do see the remnants of the marks on either side but nothing of the big one on top.
