I spent a lot of time trying to determine the mark. I read on a website to try scanning the mark. I did that and here are the pics. I will also be uploading other better quality photos.

I did try to clean the mark with a special jewelry cloth because it was dark, but I wonder if I erased some of the writing.

FYI, I also downloaded the magnifier app, but wasn't able to discern anything and also tried looking though camera lens, a loupe and magnifier. If I got too close it was blurry but when I zeroed in could not discern letters. mark scanned.jpg scanned2.jpg scanned2.jpg

Bronwen and others mentioned more photos would help. I really tried my best so I hope this will perhaps help decide if glass or jade or what type of jade.
Bronwen suggested pictures of the edges and flower petals would be helpful. I have attached these here 18 copy.jpg

Just what I wanted to see, not what you want to hear. By itself it's not proof, but it appears there is no undercutting defining the flower petals; the shape is one that could have been turned out of a mold, there's nothing to get caught. If a petal had shown separation from the background, I would have had to reconsider. For now, I still think it is glass.

Thank you Bronwen for taking the time to help me with this piece. I do appreciate all the information you have given me.
It does not feel very satiny smooth--a bit rough. (I do not have any jewelry experience.)

Kyratango, you so much for your very knowledgeable answer. It is really amazing that you know all this information. Just amazing. I have posted some more pictures of the flowers on the side, and the stone from the back--someone saw bubbles? and some of the front. If you have time, I would like to know if this further confirms that it is "average jadeite $50/70

From your last pics, I see the internal fractures lines which are the clues it is not glass.
I'm used to hunt on Ebay for old jadeite beads or carvings, and this is my telltale it is old and good:)
You can see these " lines" on my two beads necklaces: rWtGlioUs.VEGsRSPA-DBA-smallw.jpg jtA5P-aZ9.dIuDu.fjrYTA-smallw.jpg

I think Lucille B was right that the pin mark says China. In that case I’d say Jadeite. I also see carving that would indicate it. The additional pictures were very helpful!

I see jadeite, not glass. And it would be very very unusual for a Chinese piece to use Czech glass. Caveat is that I suppose it's feasible the setting was exported.

Pekin type Czech glass is much more considered and less random.

The look of the fracture lines is bringing me around to stone. After consulting with my minerals guide. would have to guess this is nephrite, not jadeite.

OOOOH, SO CLOSE, just not quite clear enough....and to add to misery, the mark may be blurred to BEGIN WITH!! I don't think you erased any of the writing though! KUDOS for all your efforts!!!! I wanted to take the best (first) one and see if I could add to it, but don't think I can improve on it!!

@antique85, I don't think that mark is in English! I only enhanced it SLIGHTLY, but think the letters mostly are....and OTHERS are better at reading them than I.....
P POVTAINY.....there's something in the very beginning as well.....keep in mind I can be wrong on what I'm seeing!!

Have I ever mentioned I hate jade nearly as much as black stuff? I know I can't tell nephrite from jadeite based on my own experience, so resorted to my very good gems & minerals guide, which has ample color photos One pic has a group of 6 cabochons that look just like OP for color distribution, IDed as nephrite. I do see also a strand of beads very much like yours that are IDed as Burmese jadeite. Nephrite is more common to China than jadeite, hence I lean to nephrite.

It looked like W. Germany to me - maybe someone replaced the pin stem at some point?
