I got this item yesterday from a local clearance.

There were several items of African tribal art, Elephants foot ,stools, Blackamoors, etc but the relatives took them.

    This was left behind.

The deceased lived and worked in Kenya from the mid 50's until the early 80's so just about everything in the house had African influence.

I believe it is chalkware, no marks anywhere, very heavy.
It has the same colouring and texture of Blackamoores I've seen in the past but smaller.
The basket had cash in, which was a bonus.:hilarious:

I've lightly cleaned it but it is still quite dirty.

    I've lightened one pic.

Nice item -- design and quality look pretty good. Chalkware damages very easily, so if this is undamaged, I could see it making a little moola. Age is probably when they were in Africa, though I'd think 50s or 60s.

On this rare occassion I think I will be keeping this item.
I have a small collection of ceramics, glass, silver and Ivory.
Once the cabinet is full then no more.
    I swore I wouldn't do this.

One should not collect what you sell.

As a a hobby I already collect coins, banknotes and war medals, I really don't need anymore.:hilarious:

Yeah Cool piece, looks more like an Austrian cold painted terracotta, but the base does suggest chalkware, surprisingly good condition for chalkware

The monkeys a great touch as well

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I already tried to work it lighter & inverted.....came up with nothing either!!

UPDATE! I played with it again today, and it now DOES look like there's something there, but not quite 'discernible', at least not to me.....maybe one of you can make something of it....inverted.....AND I JUST rotated it 180 as it looked like the LAST two figures, which below are now the first two figures MIGHT be I2........ending in an X????

Honestly I've been over it with a loop, nothing apart from paint streaks and runs.
I think pareidolia has set in :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:
