Worse, even I recognize this image. It's not a Roybal, it's a Homegoods!

That is blatantly misleading and incorrect then. Can you email the auctioneers as that’s very naughty of them.

Honestly, Ive given up trying to educate them. Also there's some sort of thing against changing the listing at the last minute. On certain platforms its impossible to change the listing once its posted. There may be good reasons for that.

    I just learnt this:

Is Joyce Roybal a Real Person?
Joyce Roybal is a British Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1955. His artworks are influcened by another artist called Graciela Boulanger. Joyce Roybal’s paintings use decorative thick textured, subjects mainly children playing musical instruments or sports balls, hot air ballons, bicycles. Some refer to his images as “Puffy People”.

Is J Roybal and Joyce Roybal the same person?
I’m afraid not. There are lots of paintings with the signature ‘J Roybal’ in the maket, they are actually not Joyce Roybal’s artworks.

If this work is signed Joyce Roybal (name in full), it's probably authentic.

    Who is J Roybal then?
It is not possible for you to find reliable souces about this artist, not even on wikipedia. Why? Because based on our experience in art reproduction field. J Roybal is quite possible a made-up name by a Chinese oil painting wholesaler who create new artwork based on Joyce Roybal’s art. And because of the hotselling of these new artworks, more and more oil painting suppliers join this group and sell the reproduction of these artworks which makes J Roybal artworks everywhere. Because this kind of method(sometimes for avoiding copyright issues) is not new in this field.

I read all of this nonsense online about these paintings. #1 Anyone legitimately studying art (initial post) wouldn’t waste their time researching these paintings. #2 If there was a real issue with this artist actually existing, I would think the artist, or their family, would have created an official website to explain this. #3 Let the buyer beware, I see mistakes in auction listings all of the time. As a matter of fact I am going to an estate sale today with an etching attributed to the wrong artist.

I'm just guessing here but maybe one condition of the Puffy People copyright transfer was that his name is attached to everything so that he gets credit for creating them.... the J. Roybal, J__Roybal, J.A. Roybal signature changes a lot.
I'm having trouble trying to pick the authentic one.

@Tahmoor girl PLEASE re-read the very first post by @sunday silence - there IS NO known artist by the name of Joyce Roybal - that was the whole point of this thread to begin with. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
