Hi everyone- does anyone recognize the style of this drum and when it can likely be dated to based on the nails? I was thinking Chinese but I would love others opinions. I think someone was using as a coffee table lol.

The bright colours and those studs in particular makes it look fairly modern to me. I don’t know about origin but I don’t think African.

Yes.Just did some searching and it looks very much like some chinese wood and leather drums on line. Lion dance drum?

Yes the studs threw me off too. I don’t know if someone added those later for show? The nails both on the wood and on the hide look older.

The leather itself looks worn/used and older. Do you think the drum
was perhaps refurbished/paint touch-ups? I don’t know. But it is cool!

Most examples on line I now see have those studs.

Better wait for members that really know their stuff.. I didn’t see any examples with that black ring and black centre. Maybe it’s for training?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Because of stains on the top? I know you were just joking, but am wondering how tall it is.

No haha I actually think it was being used as a side table! It’s about 3 feet tall
