Personally not getting that same feeling. But I agree somethings in the painting are a little “off”

    Yes must have been
done from a photo or postcard. But now knowing the location,I do find the painting more interesting.

Fyi, Boland... It's always helpful to post photograph of painting in original frame. Helps with dating.

Thanks. I will remember that. I do however think the frame was maybe switched out before the painting was listed for sale on line. The plain and cheap pine frame it come it looked almost new and freshly painted to me. Or maybe it was never framed.

Just to add my tuppence worth, the building with the cupola is a market hall, not a town hall, with the open area underneath intended to shelter people selling goods. The broad street leading up to it was also possibly used for street markets. Amersham's market hall is an important local landmark, see:

The cars are really strangely shaped, the painter must have been more comfortable with straight architectural lines than curves!

Much appreciated. Thank you for the comment and link. I enjoyed the interesting read and information on the history of the market hall.Yes Mr Clark clearly had a challenge with the painting of the cars...

Thank you so much for correcting me re market hall. I still had Thame in mind when I wrote that. (Theirs is a town hall.)

The "artist" seems to have struggled with all the cars. Perhaps the original photograph was not helpful there.
