Are silver-tone filigree pieces always silver?

Occasionally, I'll come across a piece of silver-tone filigree jewelry. Most of the pieces I find don't have marks. Is it safe to assume that they're low-grade silver, or can fine filigree-work also be made with base metals?

    No it isn't.:sorry:
Filigree can be made with other metals as well. Best to get a silver test kit.

Thank you :) I won't pay silver prices unless there's a mark, but if I spot a nice Cannetille piece for a couple euros, I'll usually pick it up.

Get a magnet on 'em, as a first quick check. A lot are low grade silver.

I've seen much done with tin/lead solder on copper wire
