Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hey, @charlie cheswick!!! Am I the only one seeing what I've outlined in red, as a potential 'ship' as having been tossed high up in the rocks during a storm!!???? It DOES look like it to me, BUT that also doesn't make it so!!!! And such things HAVE happened!! I've also used "Levels" in Photoshop to 'balance' the colors, although, truthfully I'm not sure they were this dark or vibrant back when done!!! But, who knows!!! Check it out on your painting, without the red outline around it....and if so, I'm thinking it might be out of scale.....!!!

    Hi aqui

There does look like there is something there doesn't it, maybe part of a mast ?

Looks sooooo nice in that colour balance ! :)

Charlie, you might want to check stock sizes of vintage British art boards to check the supposition that parts of a larger painting cut down.

I had a look under the newspaper, but no info, but they are both on an art board

Both measure exactly 9 inches by 8 inches which I find odd, why so exact if cut from a larger painting ?

Does art board typically come in a 9" x 8" size?

I've found some canvas paintings in 9 by 8 but not boards

I suppose they could have been cut the same size to be displayed together, unsure

If you want it without that red square, it's also saved without..............

They could also have been cut by the original artist to that size for some reason, but I doubt it. Would cleaning both (carefully and with approved materials) help the yellowing? Personally I might leave bad enough alone, but I'm weird.

I might mount them something like this. The spacing lets the mind fill in the gap between the two, almost like looking through a window frame. (note i've covered up the edge with that spar or whatever on the right side of the "rocks" part.) - cheers

That looks really wonderful elarnia, thanks

I think Aj mentioned something similar, and it really works

I couldn't visualise it before, but now that is the plan

    Thanks

I think elarnia has the best idea!
"Ship to shore, SOS, rock outcropping ahead!"
The placement makes a story out of them.
Let me know if you can get the yellowed adhesive off..
