    Hi,
Looks like noon in Pittsburgh Pa up until the 1960s. You had to drive with your head lights on during the day. Houses, buildings were all black. I remember when the city decided to clean the court house and jail for the bicentennial of Pittsburgh.
Everyone was shocked since they were pink sandstone!!! It was black again within a year. All of the roaring steel mills pouring smoke, ash and such day and night. It looked like Dante's Inferno.

It looks like an industrial complex has just been bombed, with that fire. Maybe war art?

    Hi,
My family lived for so many generations in Pittsburgh. The only ones that died were the postmen. The route on the Mountain Washington side of Pittsburgh was 75 stories straight up the hill and 75 stories down 25 ft over and 75 stories back up and down 25 ft over and up the hill again. The worst was they had 2 mail deliveries every day to the houses. That was also in the coke smoke and smell. We were lucky we lived in the country but when the railroad carried the hot ashes from the mills and dumped them over the hill the heat would blast you from a half a mile away. It was like living next to a volcano that erupted four to five times a day and night. Steel was king back then.

I remember St Paul's Cathedral being scrubbed up in the 60s. It came up the most wonderful glowing pink. And has stayed that, too.
