    Good day all,
Picked these up today at an ESale. Images don’t do them justice. Originally there were four, but one broke before the sale(wasnt my fault :)), I really wanted a set of 4. I know there is a word to describe when they apply that cake icing effect, but it eludes me at the moment. These are very fine-light porcelain with no stamp or signature, but on the inside raised porcelain, the bottom appears to be a Japanese womans face. Don’t think they are old(? I wouldn’t know). Does anyone recognize this style and face marking?

    Forever thankful.

I think the raised decoration may be what's called "moriage."

@cxgirl @i need help, omg.... shocked :wideyed:. Thank you both, I have never seen anything like this...and mid 19th. So sad I lost one. I have to read more on this lithophane. As stated in OP, the images don’t do these cups justice, and so true, the detail in face is amazing. :) :) :)

Thank you @Pat P , I have two other pieces so I knew of it before but lost the term. :)

The models were actually factory girls, not Geishas. But I'm sure the fierce dragons will keep those that think otherwise at bay.:)

Pretty sure they didnt want customers to think factory worker while sippin, so I’m going along with the trend ;) :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

By their appearance alone, I would have to agree. As I states in OP. Thank you...

    Thank you.
It seems as though ebay here, has many, and the pricing seems very reasonable for these type items surviving 100 years, give or take. Sad I dont have the saucer to go with it. I would think they would sell for more, but that might only be due to the fact I have never seen lithophane before(I was very surprized to see this the other day). I have had a good life, but now I think it has been in a bubble as well.

There's an ocean of treasure out there - here's a boat to get around in :)

Happy hunting and good luck to all of us!
