It looks like a vintage Spanish street scene to me (or maybe Italian, but it could also be a number of other places)Anyway the frame looks 70’s-80’s to me? The painting itself is 29cm x 40cm. The signature is unclear (of course it is) But maybe someone recognizes it? Or what would you say the name of the artist is,please? Thanks for any comments and keep well..

I see A. Ruiz. 1950s from the clothing and frame. Looks like Spain to me too.

I was thinking at first the initial is a ‘A’or ‘H’ And the surname ended in a ‘i’ or ‘j’ or ‘y’.

It could well be decorative. Spanish and Italian street scenes were not uncommon in the era.

It's not uncommon in Spain for the z to extend downward. Here's a Ruiz signature for comparison. Does look like a y, doesn't it?

    It is charming, Boland.
Ruiz is a common name, but it is likely he or she painted quite a few similar paintings. You may come across more Ruiz's with the same subject, so hopefuly a greater chance of finding information.

I would suggest you open up the back as there may be additional information there.

Thank you for the comment Any Jewelry. ‘Charming’ is maybe the best way to describe this.. Nothing really special. I agree with you,I will search Ruiz’s some more..

Agreed. The village street or market scenes looked to be a popular subject matter. For the most part these scenes do have a certain allure. Thanks again for the help..
