Hello everyone! I’ve been crazy busy so gone for awhile. Just wanted to say hi and share this gem of message I got from a potential buyer.

“Hi would you be able to resize it since it is currently too small for me? I am a US size 8. Basically this would involve making it bigger by hitting it with a hammer which would make the shank thinner. Please let me know. Thanks”

This is a size 5 1/2 vintage sterling blister pearl ring!

I have heard of a jeweler squeak a 1/2 size larger. But, a good jeweler would correctly size the ring. If you like the ring correctly size it. If you hate it then stretch it and throw it away, because it will break or be too thin to wear

Im not a jeweler and no way am I hammering this ring. I’d have to make it 2 1/2 sizes bigger. I agree, I’ve stretched them a bit but come on!

No way to hammer it to an 8,it will need at least 6mm length of metal added to shank.

Not to mention probably destroying the pearl.

    how much, Schatzi (HC Artmann)?
special mandrels for a teeny wee bit, but here no chance.
shrinking is even worse and should only be done by a specialist; had a GF when I was young and crisp who was federal goldsmith and she told me that you need to take out all stones and then with heating and shockcooling with ice-spray - but also there not over a certain amount.

I had a treasured gold ring once, which I took to a jeweler twice....once to be cut, and a small piece removed, and rejoined, to make it smaller; than later, to be cut, and a small piece added, and rejoined, to make it larger. Sad that my fingers didn't stay the same size....but life is often like that.
A good jeweler can do that, and the change will be invisible; and a buyer could have that done; but no way do you want to do that in order to sell the ring; or worse yet, start hammering. Yikes.
