Another little brass goddess figure?

Hi all. So the current ‘Venus of Capua’ statue thread made me think and re-look this little brass statue that I got few years ago.. I always thought it looked really old to me or handmade (and maybe with the wooden base added later) I also assumed that it was somewhat based on the Roman goddess Juno (but that just seems wrong to me now) Also a souvenir ? Stands 15cm tall. What do you think? Age? Thanks for any comments. Keep well

 

She does not have any of the attributes of Juno/Hera. My sense is that she does not belong to the Greco-Roman world at all. Egyptian, perhaps, or other ancient civilization of the Middle East.

 

Thanks for the comment. I think I just based my initial assumption purely on the “holding of a ball in the hand” thing (seems silly now that I thought that)

Anyway,I couldn’t remember where I put it or even exactly what it looked like.. When I look at it now I also think Egyptian (hair/headrest and slender body) Will do some new searching..

 

It's not Egyptian. Archaic from somewhere. Here's a similar Etruscan pose but, obviously, not same period. Other examples can be found. The round object is usually described as an apple.

Apologies. That image was described on internet as being Etruscan but I've also found it described as Greek. It's at the Getty; I would go with their attribution.

The Getty museum seems well worth a visit. Read about the ‘Statuette of Aphrodite’ holding the golden apple and what/who the statue represents (very interesting stuff)

Some similarities in the pose but the Getty statue is much more voluptuous and the apple more correctly proportioned.

As Debora said, yours is from an archaic period.

 

Ok. Thanks for that. I obviously had to google Archaic Greece. So the little brass statue is based on a archaic period view/version of Hera? (Sorry just to clarify as Iam was a little confused)

my twisted mind had it as "Morticia Addams with Fester's Brain".... No wonder my poor son is all about Halloween ....lol
