Whilst waiting for the water to heat up for my shower (having discovered it was icy cold :arghh::mad:I’ve filled the time looking through a little box of jewellery from The Hoard.
What do you think of this necklace please? Presumably Czech?
Unusual blue beehive beads and uranium glass discs. Just discovered it glows!:blackalien:
Do you think this necklace is in its original state or is the chain a later change?. It needs restringing so trying to decide if to leave ‘as is’ or replace the chain with contemporary beads
Is the type of chain identifiable as old or more modern?
It’s short at just over 8” folded over so 16” end to end.
The beads are on cord attached to the chain.
    Thanks for looking :)

I don't usually go ga-ga over beads but... Those are lovely. It all looks original and I wouldn't change one thing. (Doing so will damage its integrity.)

If it’s all original I’ll definitely leave them as they are :)

I see what you mean about the cord attached to the chain. Almost wondering if this piece was longer at one time, some beads lost or broken, and someone extended with a bit of chain years ago to get it to 16". (Also could be they made pieces with cords attached to chains, but can't say I've run into any -- but disclaimer, I don't get too many Czech pieces, so maybe others can comment.)

In any event, I'm with Debora. The piece looks fantastic as is. So whether original or altered I wouldn't tamper with it. LOVE the blue textured glass, it has a nice grouping of colors with the other beads, and bonus that it GLOWS!

I don't see anything that doesn't look original. Metal elements just aged at different rates.

Agree lots of older necklaces have the metal elements aged differently, you see that all the time. What made me hesitate is that there is a cotton-like cord in part of the necklace, and that is attached to a metal chain (Last photo). Usually the older necklaces I've seen are either all cord or all metal. Could be perfectly original, it's possible I just haven't run into that before.

The one attaching the beads to the chain? Where it logically would be IMO.

I've seen vintage Czech necklaces on metal chains.

I've seen vintage Czech necklaces on cotton cords. The cotton cord goes right up to the clasp.

I just haven't seen any with both a metal chain and cotton cord on the same piece. That is the only thing that made me wonder if it had an alteration.

Maybe if someone could find a similar example of a vintage Czech necklace with cotton cord and metal chain together on one necklace, that would cinch it.

100% original, and very Art Deco, with that stacking of disc beads in between larger beads, forming one unit of beads. 1920s, probably Czech, but could be German.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, love Art Deco.:hungry:
Of course you have.:joyful: Looks great in UV light.:) And did I say it was gorgeous?

I should be sleeping, I'll see if I can get some shut-eye now.

I agree, now I’ve seen everyone’s answers. If it was altered then it was a very long time ago.

    That’s what was confusing me

I’ve had it for months though! I didn’t think to shine a torch on it until last night. Boredom makes me see what glows. Sleep well x

Do you think it would be safe to give it a very quick vinegar dip (1 min) to brighten it up as its very dingy?

    Should be OK.:)
I tried, but then someone decided to test a leaf blower in front of our house at stupid o'clock.:hungover:
